(Bloomberg) -- A settlement of more than $600 million resolving claims over the contamination of drinking water in Flint, Michigan, was given preliminary approval by a federal judge on Thursday.

Residents of Flint, one of the state’s poorest communities, ended up drinking water tainted with lead after city resources were switched to untreated river water to save money in 2014.
