(Bloomberg) -- A Hong Kong court has temporarily banned publishing anything online that could encourage violence, Apple Daily has reported.
The decision by the city’s High Court covers online material that could incite violence or acts that harm individuals or damage their property, the newspaper said, citing the court’s decision. The ruling includes the Telegram app and the LIHKG Forum, which is similar to Reddit.
Hong Kong has seen nearly five months of protests that have at times been violent. The city’s economy contracted sharply in the third quarter as it entered a recession.
An interim injunction was sought by the city’s justice secretary Thursday evening and remains in force until Nov. 15, Apple Daily reported.
A press relations officer for the Department of Justice did not immediately confirm the decision when contacted by a Bloomberg reporter by phone.
