(Bloomberg) -- The French parliament overwhelmingly rejected a motion of no-confidence in President Emmanuel Macron’s government.

The vote came following several weeks of demonstrations and riots by the Yellow Vest movement, which demanded lower taxes, more services and the resignation of Macron. Only 70 lawmakers voted for the measure; Macron’s Republic on the Move party has 309 out of 577 legislators in the lower house.

Proponents of the motion decried the extra spending to defuse the protests, estimated at about 10 billion euros ($11 billion).
