Finland’s New Premier Offers Tusk Both Liikanen and Rehn for ECB

Finland’s Prime Minister Antti Rinne is putting forward both Erkki Liikanen and Olli Rehn as candidates to become the European Central Bank President.

In discussions with the president of the European Council, Donald Tusk, Rinne offered up both names for the race to succeed Mario Draghi as part of a package of high-level appointments in the European Union, according to an emailed statement on Wednesday sent by the Finnish parliament’s Grand Committee, which deals with EU matters.

Tusk chairs the meetings of EU leaders, who need to decide on the appointments for top jobs in the coming weeks. The leaders next meet on Thursday and Friday in Brussels.
