Aircel-Maxis Case: Chidambaram, Karti Get Protection From Arrest Till August 9

The Delhi court extended the relief after arguments on anticipatory bail plea of the Chidambarams remained inconclusive.

A Delhi court on Thursday extended till August 9 interim protection from arrest to former Union Finance MInister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis cases filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate.

Special Judge OP Saini extended the relief after arguments on anticipatory bail plea of the Chidambarams remained inconclusive, as both CBI and ED sought more time to argue the matter further.

During the hearing on Thursday, Chidambaram told the court there was no grounds for it to deny them anticipatory bail, opposed by CBI and ED.

The Aircel-Maxis cases relate to alleged irregularities in grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval to a telecom deal between the firms.
