Trump Asserts Right to Pardon Himself, But Says He Won't Need To

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump said he has the power to pardon himself. Just don’t expect anything like that to happen, he added.

"As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong?" Trump said in a Twitter posting on Monday. "In the meantime, the never ending Witch Hunt, led by 13 very Angry and Conflicted Democrats (& others) continues into the mid-terms!"

The tweet capped a flurry of missives Trump made on social media on Monday as he marked his 500 days in office by recapping what he said were successes on the economy, job creation and health care.

Trump’s lawyers have been building a legal argument since late last summer for why Mueller shouldn’t be able to question Trump, the details of which were outlined in a confidential January memo to Mueller that was leaked to the New York Times over the weekend.
