(Bloomberg) -- Rwandan Foreign Minister Louise Mushikiwabo said French President Emmanuel Macron has shown a willingness to improve ties between the two countries.

“This is a good step forward and Rwanda welcomes the new government’s move to amend the relationship,” Mushikiwabo told reporters Tuesday in the capital, Kigali.

Rwanda accuses France of complicity in a 1994 genocide in the East African nation that left more than 800,000 ethnic Tutsi and moderate Hutus dead. France has denied the allegations.
