Trump Is Said to Invite Macron for First State Dinner in April

(Bloomberg) -- Donald Trump will host French President Emmanuel Macron in late April for the first state dinner of the U.S. president’s administration, a person familiar with the matter said.

Trump was ebullient after Macron hosted him in Paris for Bastille Day, where they observed a military parade down the Champs-Elysees. While Macron has been critical of some Trump administration policies -- such as the decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement -- he has still managed to establish a stronger working relationship with the U.S. president than other European leaders.

State dinners are one of the most sought-after invitations for corporate leaders, campaign donors, celebrities and government officials. They’re typically the most formal of White House social events, full of pageantry and entertainment.
