Rand Paul Says He Suffered Six Broken Ribs in Attack at His Home

(Bloomberg) -- Senator Rand Paul says a final medical report shows that he suffered six broken ribs and a "pleural effusion," a buildup of fluid around the lungs, in Friday’s incident when a neighbor tackled him outside his home in Kentucky.

Paul said in a Twitter message Wednesday, "I appreciate all of the support from everyone," but he didn’t say when he might return to the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky told reporters Tuesday that Paul, a Republican, is "on the mend" and is expected to be back in Washington next week. Paul’s neighbor, Rene Boucher, was arrested and charged with assault, according to news reports.
