(Bloomberg) -- Party plenary Saturday approved four candidates including Montevideo governor Daniel Martinez and ex-central bank chief Mario Bergara to compete in primary elections next year, Frente Amplio chairman Javier Miranda told reporters.

- Shortlist will be submitted to party congress Dec. 1-2 for ratification
- NOTE: Primary will be held on June 30, 2019, with the first round of the elections in October
- NOTE: The left-wing Frente Amplio has controlled the presidency and both houses of Congress since 2005
