(Bloomberg) -- U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration announced that it will give an additional $108 million in humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft said in a statement.

- Funds will be used toward providing food, shelter, winter clothing, blankets, medicine, and safe drinking water to assist Syrians in need inside the country and the region, Craft said, without specifying further.
- The U.S’s humanitarian response to the Syrian crisis totaled $10.5 billion to date, Craft said
- Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is due to meet as soon as Friday with the leaders of France, Russia, and Turkey amid tensions in the conflict in Syria.
