U.K.'s Fox Visits Israel in Bid to Deepen Post-Brexit Trade

U.K. Seeks to Deepen Post-Brexit Trade Ties With Israel

(Bloomberg) -- The U.K. is seeking to deepen its post-Brexit ties with like-minded countries and promote global free trade, Secretary of State Liam Fox told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

“As Britain leaves the EU, we want to deepen our strategic relationships with those countries who share our s,” Fox said. With calls of protectionism arising, free-trade countries like the U.K. and Israel should “make the case” for global free trade, he said.

Britain is Israel’s largest trading partner in Europe and its third-largest globally, Israel’s Economy Ministry said. Bilateral trade reached $10 billion in 2017, more than half of it exports to Britain, it said.

Netanyahu told Fox that Israel wants to ensure that trade between the two countries expands, “under all conditions.”

“I leave those conditions to you,” he said.
