(Bloomberg) -- Charlie Elphicke, a U.K. Conservative lawmaker, was charged with three counts of sexual assault against two women.
Elphicke, 48, who represents the town of Dover, will appear at a London magistrates court on Sept. 6, the Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement Monday. The decision to file charges was made after prosecutors received a file from the Metropolitan Police.
Elphicke’s lawyer said her client “denies any wrongdoing.”
"He will defend himself vigorously and is confident that he will clear his name,” his lawyer Ellen Peart said in a statement. “Meanwhile Charlie would like to thank everyone for their continued support of him and his family.”
(An earlier version of the story was corrected to fix the age supplied by the Metropolitan Police.)
