Swiss File Indictment Against Former German Soccer Officials

(Bloomberg) -- Switzerland has filed an indictment against former German soccer federation (DFB) officials Horst Rudolf Schmidt, Theo Zwanziger and Wolfgang Niersbach in connection with the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

“The accused are alleged to have fraudulently misled the members of a supervisory body of the DFB organizing committee for the 2006 World Cup in Germany in April 2005 about the true purpose of a payment of around 6.7 million euros,” according to a statement by the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland on Tuesday.

The attorney general had also filed charges against former Swiss FIFA official Urs Linsi. The case against Franz Beckenbauer will be continued separately, it said.
