Protest Featuring Trump Baby Blimp Set to Go Ahead in Denmark

(Bloomberg) -- Protests planned around Donald Trump’s trip to Denmark are set to go ahead despite the U.S. president’s decision to cancel his Sept. 2-3 state visit after his attempt to buy Greenland was rebuffed, organizers said on Wednesday.

Thousands of Danes have signed up to join an event announced on a Facebook page called Trump Baby Denmark. Organizers plan to fly the Trump baby balloon, also known as the Trump Blimp, which became famous worldwide during Trump’s July 2018 visit to London.

“We can confirm that Trump Baby will fly over Copenhagen on Sept. 2,” Morten Skovgaard said in a Facebook post. “The satire on Trump’s childish behavior has only become even more relevant after his cancellation –- and we take it that it will now be much easier to get the necessary permits to celebrate that he won’t be visiting Denmark.”

The U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, Carla Sands, said that Trump “s and respects” the Danes and is looking forward to a trip at a later date. She added that “great friends and allies” like the U.S. and Denmark “should be able to discuss all issues openly and candidly.”
