Explosions Reported at Russian Military Factory, Interfax Says

(Bloomberg) -- A military-explosives factory east of Moscow blew up on Saturday, injuring more than 40 people and sending a plume of smoke over parts of the city of Dzerzhinsk.

Fifteen of the 43 injured were hospitalized, Interfax reported, citing the Health Care Ministry. A fire at the Kristall plant was brought under control after an administrative building was destroyed by the explosions, the regional department of the Emergencies Ministry said on its website.

A state of emergency was declared in Dzerzhinsk and three neighboring villages, Tass reported. A criminal probe into possible safety violations at the plant is under way, according to the Regional Investigative Committee.
