European Retailing Pummelled by Virus Lockdowns

(Bloomberg) -- Euro-area retail sales plunged more than 11% for a second month in April, with clothing down 21% compared with the March. Lockdowns have battered retailing, with separate figures on Thursday showing that champagne sales in French supermarkets dropped 63% in April. The figures confirm a grim picture seen in industry data and which has threatened businesses and jobs across the continent.
