The European Union’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said fishing talks won’t be separated from the overall trade discussion between the bloc and the U.K.
“There will be two conditions which will be very clear in this trade agreement: we want an agreement on fisheries, which will be difficult, on reciprocal access to waters and markets for British and French fishermen and at the same time, in this trade agreement, we want an agreement on a level playing field,” he said on Sunday on LCI television.
The EU are entering talks with the U.K. on their future dealings, from trade to data sharing, fishing rights, and security co-operation. The new deadline is Dec. 31 -- ambitious given that such deals usually take years to hammer out.
