Ethiopia’s Ahmed Expects U.S Financial Backing for Reform

(Bloomberg) -- Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said his country is expecting “significant financial support” from the U.S. for the government’s reform program.

Abiy met with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the prime minister’s office.

Ethiopia has embarked on far-reaching political and economic reforms since Abiy came to power in 2018 and plans to hold general elections this year. The U.S. has already donated $37 million to support preparations for the elections.
