(Bloomberg) -- One candidate to head the International Monetary Fund stands above all others, according to former Bank of England Governor Mervyn King.
Mark Carney, the Canadian who succeeded King at the BOE, would be well suited to the role if authorities are able to look beyond the desire to give it to a European figure, he said in a Bloomberg Television interview. Carney also holds Irish and British passports and has lived in the U.K. since 2013.
“The most qualified candidate is almost certainly Mark Carney but he’s not seen as someone integral to the European Union,” he said. “I’m not saying who should or should not get the job, but he is clearly a qualified candidate. I’m not sure that many other of the European names that have been mentioned so far are qualified to hold such an important economic leadership role.”
