Body of Slain General Soleimani Arrives in Iran, State TV Says

(Bloomberg) -- The body of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike late on Thursday night, arrived in the city of Ahvaz in southwestern Iran, state television reported.

Live images from Ahvaz on state TV news showed thousands of mourners pouring into the city to attend mourning services and sermons. The body will be taken to funeral processions across the country, arriving in Mashhad later on Sunday. Soleimani’s burial is expected to take place on Tuesday morning in his hometown of Kerman, state TV said.

The body of an Iraqi militia leader, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was killed alongside Soleimani, was accompanying the general’s remains.
