Biggest U.S. Hurricanes Are Becoming More Expensive, Less Deadly

(Bloomberg) -- While hurricanes that have slammed into the U.S. have become less deadly over time, the financial impact has become more significant.

Death tolls have dropped as buildings get sturdier and warning systems more effective. The range among the top 10 killers runs from 8,000 during the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900. Meanwhile, costs among the five most expensive storms range from $50 billion to $161 billion.
