(Bloomberg) -- About one-in-ten Americans work for a non-profit organization, with the greatest concentration in the northern states. About one-in-six people are employed by non-profits in Vermont, Maine, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. To the south, the ratio is about 1-in-16 in Texas, Alabama, and South Carolina. At the crossroads, the District of Columbia leads at about 1-in-4, based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data for 2016.
