(Bloomberg) -- About 120 firefighters are tackling a fire on the roof of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, which adjoins the luxury One Hyde Park apartment project in Knightsbridge.
Twenty fire engines are being used to fight the blaze, London Fire Brigade said on Twitter. Unverified images and videos carried on social media show a tall plume of smoke rising from the property. The hotel is currently being renovated as part of an upgrade that was due to complete in the third quarter of this year, according to a filing.
Representatives for the luxury hotel group did not immediately answer the phone or reply to emails seeking comment.
The property is owned by a unit of Jardine Matheson Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based firm conglomerate that owns the Mandarin Oriental group and has holdings in real estate, insurance and supermarkets. The hotel was d at 338 million pounds ($454 million) at the end of 2017, the filing to Companies House shows. It was acquired for 177 million pounds in 2007, according to the Land Registry. The hotel had a loss of 9.3 million pounds last year.
