Trump is willing to take his time over removing the three-star Army general, with whom he never personally gelled, so he has a strong successor lined up, the newspaper said on its website.
The development is part of a broader possible shake-up under consideration by the president that may include senior officials at the White House, according to the newspaper.
Separately, Bloomberg reported Trump hasn’t made a final decision on removing McMaster, citing a White House official.
