Americans' Stock Holdings Rose Most in Four Years Ahead of Drop

(Bloomberg) -- A rising stock market helped Americans’ equity holdings climb last quarter by the most in four years -- just before a correction wiped away some of those gains.

The of their corporate equities held by U.S. households and nonprofit organizations increased by $832 billion in the fourth quarter, the most since the same period in 2013, according to data from the Federal Reserve on Thursday. That brought stock holdings to $17.9 trillion, or 22.2 percent of all financial assets, the highest share since 2000 -- the era of the technology bubble.
