(Bloomberg) -- Rupert Murdoch suffered a painful back injury while sailing and plans to recuperate at home for a few weeks, according to an email to colleagues that was seen by Bloomberg News.
The 86-year-old executive chairman of 21st Century Fox Inc. is already recovering and expects to be in communication with staff at his companies, according to the memo to senior executives Fox declined to comment.
Fox, one of Murdoch’s two major holdings, plans to sell a big chunk of assets, including its film and TV studios and some cable channels, to Walt Disney Co. for $52.4 billion. His oldest son Lachlan has been asked to lead the remaining businesses of Fox, which will include TV stations, the flagship broadcast network, Fox News and sports outlets.
