(Bloomberg) -- President Uhuru Kenyatta has signed into law amendments to the East African nation’s electoral regulations that introduce changes including replacing current election officials before a national vote scheduled for August 2017.

“The Act introduces a wide range of electoral reforms including a new framework for the recruitment of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioners, while laying the platform for the orderly exit of the current office holders,” the presidency said in an e-mailed statement.

Last month a committee of Kenyan lawmakers agreed to establish a nine-member panel to recruit new officials for the electoral agency and hire an independent organization to audit the voter register.
