(Bloomberg) -- Almost 2,000 steel manufacturing and steel-products manufacturing companies got at least $497.7 million in U.S. coronavirus-related loans under the Paycheck Protection Program, government data released Monday showed.

The U.S. steel industry was battered as lockdowns to combat the coronavirus’ spread shuttered construction sites and manufacturing plants across the country.

- Aluminum companies, including primary aluminum production, secondary smelting and alloying of aluminum, and aluminum sheet, plate and foil manufacturing, got at least $153.99 million
