Indian equities staged a rebound on Tuesday, recovering most of the losses made on Friday and Monday.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended 1.7% higher at 49,398. The index gained 834 points in today's session, narrowing the gap to 50,000 down to 600 points.
The NSE Nifty 50 index also gained close to 250 points in today's session, ending 1.7% higher at 14,521.
Among the sectoral indices, the real estate index was the top performer in today's session, ending 4.1% higher. The Metal index, which was the top laggard on Monday, recovered most of its losses to end with gains of 3%. Other indices which gained over 2% were the PSU Bank index (up 2.7%) and the Media index (up 2.5%).
The Nifty Bank index too gained over 600 points in today's session to end at 32,424. The Nifty Pharma and Nifty Auto index gained 1.7% each.
Broader markets also ended higher in today's session. The Nifty Midcap index gained 2.3% while the Smallcap index ended 1.7% higher.
The India Volatility Index ended 6.1% lower at 22.9.
1,413 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 482 stocks ended lower.

Opening Bell
Indian equities opened higher after two days of decline, as sentiment across the Asia-Pacific is risk-on.
The S&P BSE Sensex opened 0.7% higher at 48,900 while the NSE Nifty 50 index gained 0.63% at the start of trade to open at 14,371.
All sectoral indices opened with gains. The Nifty Metal index which was the top sectoral laggard on Monday, opened 1% higher while the Media and PSU Bank index also opened with gains of a percent.
The Nifty Bank index opened 270 points higher above the mark of 32,000 while the Auto index trades with gains of 0.7%.
Broader markets have opened in-line with the benchmarks. The Nifty Midcap index opened 0.6% higher while the Smallcap index gained 0.7% at the start of trade.
1,222 stocks on the NSE have opened with gains while 327 are declining.

Indian equities are likely to begin today's trading session on a positive note after two successive declines.
The two-session drop has taken the S&P BSE Sensex 1,500 points away from the 50,000-mark. The NSE Nifty 50 index fell over 1% each in two sessions—the first such instance after April 1 and April 3, 2020.
The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50 Index’s performance in India, rose 0.7% to 14,372 as of 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Mindtree, IndiaMart InterMesh, IRB Infra may react to their quarterly results reported after market closing on Monday.
Some key non-Nifty 50 firms reporting results today include Alembic Pharma, CSB Bank, CEAT, ICICI Lombard, L&T Infotech, Bank of Maharashtra along with three Tata Group companies — Tata Communications, Tata Metaliks and Tata Steel BSL.
Most of the Asia-Pacific region is witnessing gains in today's session with benchmarks in South Korea and Hong Kong outperforming.
Futures on the Dow Jones are currently trading 115 points higher. Markets in the U.S. were shut on Monday due to a holiday.
West Texas Intermediate crude fell 0.2% to $52.25 per barrel, while bitcoin fluctuated around the $36,000-mark.
