How Did The Sectoral Indices Fare
Closing Bell
Indian equities ended with gains for the fifth straight day, despite cooling off from the day's high.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended 0.55% higher at 47,613. The index ended 100 points lower from the day's high of 47,714. The NSE Nifty 50 index ended 68 points shy of the 14,000 mark, gaining 0.43% to close at 13,932. The 50-stock benchmark fell 35 points from the day's high of 13,967.
Among the sectoral indices, banks and private financials outperformed in today's session. The Nifty Bank index gained nearly 450 points or 1.5% and emerged as the top sectoral gainer. The PSU Bank index too ended with gains of 0.9%. Six out of the top 10 gainers on the Nifty 50 index were financials.
Other sectoral gainers included the Nifty I.T. index, which ended with gains of 0.7%.
Media and Metal stocks were the top laggards in today's session. The Media index fell 1.4% while the Metal index shed 1.1% in today's session. Nifty Realty, Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma index fell 0.2% each.
Broader markets too cooled off from the day's high. Both ended with a negative bias after outperforming the benchmarks in the early hours of trade.
The India Volatility Index gained 1.8% to end at 20.79.
942 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 951 stocks declined.

Opening Bell
Indian equity markets have opened with a positive bias, extending their gains for the fifth straight day. Sentiment across the Asia Pacific is largely positive after U.S. equities surged to a record high overnight.
The S&P BSE Sensex opened 0.24% higher at 47,466 while the NSE Nifty 50 index opened above the mark of 13,900, up 0.27% at 13,910.
Among the sectoral indices, the Metal index has opened with gains of 0.9% while the PSU Bank index is up 0.7%. Other indices like the Nifty Bank and Nifty Media gained 0.5% each while the Auto and FMCG indices are up 0.4% at the start of trade.
Broader markets are outperforming in the early minutes of the trading session. The Midcap index is up 0.5% while the Smallcap index gained 0.6%.

Fifth Session Of Gains Likely?

Indian equity markets continued their record-breaking run with the benchmark indices notching their fourth straight session of gains, aided by sustained foreign inflows.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended above 47,000, while the NSE Nifty 50 is close to the 13,900-mark. The Nifty Bank index, too, closed near 31,000 on Monday.
Futures are again indicating a positive start for Indian equities on Tuesday. The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50 Index’s performance in India, rose 0.35% to 13,936 as of 8:05 a.m.
Globally, most Asian markets are trading with gains this morning after benchmarks on Wall Street rallied to a record high overnight.
Shares gained in Japan, Australia and Hong Kong, while those in South Korea and China were fluctuating. Futures on the Dow Jones are trading 120 points higher. The index gained 0.7% on Monday.
West Texas Intermediate crude rose 0.7% to $47.97 per barrel, while gold was little changed at $1,875.6/Oz.
