Closing Bell: Third Straight Weekly Gains
Indian equity markets managed to end higher and posted gains for the third straight week.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended 0.65% higher at 43,882 while the NSE Nifty 50 index ended 0.7% higher at 12,859. 33 out of the 50 index constituents ended with gains.
The top gainer on the Nifty today was Bajaj Finserv - which ended with gains of 9.2% - its biggest single-day advance in two years. The stock gained for the ninth day in a row and has advanced over 50% in the last 15 trading sessions.
Gains were kept in check by the decline in Reliance Industries, which ended as the top laggard on the Nifty, down 3.7%.
In terms of sectoral performers, the Nifty I.T. index was the top gainer, ending with gains of 1.4%. The Nifty FMCG and the Nifty PSU Bank index ended with gains of 1% each.
The Nifty Media index was the top laggard in today's session, ending 0.9% lower. The Nifty Pharma was the other sectoral laggard, ending lower by 0.3%.
Broader markets outperformed for today's trading session. The Nifty Midcap index ended with gains of 0.8% while the Smallcap index ended 1.2% higher.
India Volatility Index ended little changed at 19.52.
1,089 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 738 posted losses.

Opening Bell: A Sedate Start
Indian equity markets have opened higher on the final trading day of this truncated week. This after benchmark indices fell the most in three weeks on Thursday.
The S&P BSE Sensex opened 0.3% higher at 43,732 while the NSE Nifty 50 index gained 0.3% to open above the 12,800 mark at 12,813.
The Nifty Realty index has opened with gains of 1% and is among the top sectoral performers, while the Nifty I.T. gained 0.8% at the start of trade.
Nifty Metal, FMCG and PSU Bank index opened with gains of 0.5% each.
The broader markets have opened with gains as well. The Nifty Midcap index is up 0.6% while the Smallcap index is trading with gains of 0.5% at the start of trade.

The wait for the Nifty 50 to hit 13,000 became slightly longer after the benchmark fell the most in three weeks, dragged down by financials, on Thursday.
With that, the Sensex and Nifty snapped their four-day gaining streak.
Futures are indicating a flat start to the final trading day of this truncated week. The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50 Index’s performance in India, rose 0.15% to 12,793 as of 8:05 a.m. on Friday.
So far this week, the Sensex and Nifty have gained 0.4%.
There have been some changes in the F&O ban stocks. L&T Finance Holdings and DLF have entered the ban, while Tata Steel and Jindal Steel & Power have exited.
Asian markets are mixed in early trading this morning. Benchmark indices in Japan are declining, while they are advancing in Australia. Stocks in China are fluctuating.
Futures on the Dow Jones are trading 230 points lower. The index ended 0.2% higher on Thursday.
West Texas Intermediate crude has recovered from the day's low, trading flat at $41.76 per barrel, while gold traded at $1,866/Oz.
