NHAI Eyes $3 Billion From Toll-Operate-Transfer Projects Next Financial Year

The National Highways Authority of India is hoping to raise $3 billion in the next financial year by awarding new projects under its toll-operate-transfer model.

“We want to raise funds by asset monetisation. That will help in further awarding projects,” NHAI Chairman Deepak Kumar told BloombergQuint in an interview today.

The roads authority expects to double the pace of orders awarded in the ongoing financial year, following the success of its ToT model, Kumar said. NHAI has awarded 5,000 kilometers of projects so far and will be inviting bids for another 2,500 kilometers as against a total of 4400 kilometers awarded in the last financial year, he added.

NHAI recently concluded the first round of bidding for its TOT model project which received a better-than-expected response. Macquarie, the global leader in infrastructure investment and management, had won the bid for Rs 9,681 crore. This bid was 50 percent above the that NHAI had expected for the project.
