A little over two months back, the Maharashtra government banned the use, sale, distribution and storage of single-use plastic.
But BloombergQuint found that plastic was still used and circulated in different parts of Mumbai. From the flower markets in the heart of the city, to the fish markets in the suburbs, one can easily spot these ‘banned’ plastic bags.
Although the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said that it has seized over 11,400 kilograms of plastic since June 23, and collected penalties over Rs 83 lakh as of August 18, the use of plastic persists.
