Women Step Closer to Parity as Two Join Swiss Government: Chart

(Bloomberg) -- One of the last European countries to introduce female suffrage is almost back to equal gender representation in its seven-member strong government. Viola Amherd and Karin Keller-Sutter are the eighth and ninth women respectively to be elected to executive office in Switzerland. As of Jan. 1, they join Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga in governing the country where women had to wait until 1971 to vote at a national level.
