Singapore Exports Sink Under Growing Weight of Trade War

(Bloomberg) -- Singapore’s exports dropped the most in more than two years in January, flashing another warning sign for the trade-reliant economy under stress from ongoing tariff tensions and slowing global demand. The city state’s non-oil domestic exports declined 10.1 percent from a year ago, the third straight monthly slump, and far worse than the median estimate for a 3.2 percent contraction in a Bloomberg survey of economists. While fluctuations in trade data are typical around Chinese New Year, Singapore policy makers have expressed their worry that a delayed resolution in U.S.-China talks could further disrupt export flows.
