Even as the government pores over the list of possible candidates for the post of governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), a new deputy governor, NS Vishwanathan took charge on Monday, according to a notification on the central bank’s website.
Vishwanathan, 58, was previously executive director at the RBI. His appointment as head of the regulation and risk management department has necessitated a reshuffling of portfolios of the other deputy governors.
RBI Deputy Governor, R Gandhi, the erstwhile head of regulation and risk management, will take over the financial markets and infrastructure department, recently vacated by HR Khan, whose term ended on July 3.
Vishwanathan has been appointed for a three-year term.
