(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. has dropped in a global ranking of human development -- tumbling eight spots since the start of the decade to No. 13, according to a United Nations index tracking health, education and economic well-being.

Norway, Switzerland and Australia retained the top three rankings this year. Iceland improved, rising to No. 6. Hong Kong, under the supervision of Beijing government, also moved up, tying Sweden at No. 7.
