(Bloomberg) -- Bank of England Governor Mark Carney can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to communications.
Having been hauled over the coals for mixed policy messages and misleading signals, he’s now fallen foul of technology. Testifying to U.K. lawmakers on the Treasury Committee on Tuesday -- his last scheduled public appearance before August’s interest-rate meeting -- the internet feed of the hearing was at first patchy before then shutting down completely.
Due to a scheduling clash, the committee hearing is taking place at the Farnborough International Airshow rather than in Parliament meeting rooms in London. It’s the first time since Carney became governor that the hearing is being held at another location, and it’s not gone well.
Technicians have been unable to properly restore the feed. They plan to upload a recording of the hearing as soon as possible after it finishes.
Carney is testifying on the BOE’s Financial Stability Report alongside Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe, Financial Policy Committee Member Elisabeth Stheeman and Financial Conduct Authority’s Chief Executive Andrew Bailey.
The hearing has so far focused on cyber security, Brexit, derivatives contracts, and credit growth, with no comments from Carney on monetary policy.
