April Wholesale Inflation Rises 3.8% Under New Series

Government revises base year of wholesale price index (WPI) to 2011-12 from 2004-05.

India's wholesale inflation rose 3.85 percent year-on-year in April under the new series, government data showed on Friday. The base year of wholesale price index (WPI) was revised from 2004-05 to 2011-12.

  • Primary articles prices rose 1.82 percent
  • Food articles prices rose 1.16 percent
  • Manufactured products prices rise 2.66 percent
  • Fuel and power prices increased 18.52 percent

The revision in the base year was aimed at capturing structural changes in the economy and improving the quality, coverage and representativeness of the index, the commerce ministry said in a statement.
