India Crosses 150 Crore Covid-19 Vaccination Mark

India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage crossed 150 crore (1,50,52,21,314) today. More than 81 lakh doses were administered till 7 pm on Friday.

Congratulating the nation on the landmark achievement Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "The country started the year with vaccination for children in the age group of 15 to 18 years. At the same time, in the first week of the first month of the year itself, India has also achieved the historic milestone of 150 crore- 1.5 billion vaccine doses."

Delhi Reports Over 17,000 Covid-19 Cases

Delhi recorded 17,335 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, news agency ANI reported citing figures released by the Delhi government.

The city also reported nine deaths during the same period. With a positivity rate of 17.73%, Delhi now has 39,873 active cases.

Gujarat Imposes Restrictions To Curb Covid-19 Infections

Gujarat has imposed restrictions in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Anand and Nadiad districts amid rise in Covid-19 infections, ANI reported, citing the state government.

The new restrictions are as follows:

  • Political, social programs and weddings to have no more than 400 attendees in open areas

  • Events in closed areas can operate with 50% capacity

  • No more than 100 persons allowed to attend funerals

  • Educational institutions to remain closed till Jan. 31

  • Shops, spas, shopping complexes, hotels and restaurants allowed to operate at 75% capacity, till 10 p.m.

  • Cinema halls, gyms, swimming pools and libraries allowed to operate at 50% capacity.

West Bengal Records More Than 18,000 Cases

West Bengal recorded 18,213 fresh Covid-19 cases and 18 deaths in the past 24 hours, ANI reported, citing the state government.

The active case tally in the state has now reached 51,384.

Mumbai Reports Over 20,000 Cases For Second Day

Mumbai reported 20,971 fresh Covid-19 cases for the second day, according to an update from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

The city also reported six deaths in the last 24 hours. The active cases in Mumbai now stand at 91,731.

Yesterday, Mumbai's Municipal Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal said that the city wont go into lockdown even if cases were to rise.

Goa Records New Covid Cases

Goa reported 1,418 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the past 24-hours, according to a statement from the state government.

After a significant spike in new Covid-19 cases, the state now has 5,931 active cases.

Kerala Reports Over 5,000 Fresh Covid-19 Cases

Kerala reported 5,296 fresh Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths in the past 24 hours, ANI reported citing Kerala government.

The active case tally in the state now stands at 27,859.

7-Day Home Quarantine Mandated For International Arrivals

The government of India has mandated home quarantine for all international arrivals at airports, seaports and land borders.

"All arrivals will have to undergo home quarantine for 7 days and undertake a test on the 8th day of arrival," a Health Ministry order stated.

Besides, all travellers should upload a negative Covid-19 test taken a maximum of 72 hours before the journey.

107 New Omicron Cases In Karnataka

Omicron Tally Crosses 3,000-Mark

India’s Omicron tally stood at 3,007 after the country added 377 more cases of the new Covid-19 variant.

At present, nine states—Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and, Karnataka—have more than 100 Omicron cases.

Over 1 Lakh New Cases Reported

India continued to add fresh Covid-19 cases at a rapid pace as the Omicron variant spreads.

The nation reported as many as 1,17,100 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update at 8 a.m. on Jan. 7. That compares with 30,836 recoveries recorded during the period.

Fresh cases have jumped more than 28% in a day. The daily positivity rate spiked to 7.74%.
