No Need To Panic, Covid-19 Situation Under Control In Delhi: Kejriwal

Amid a rise in the number of coronavirus cases in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday sought to assure people that there is no need to panic as the situation is completely under control. Kejriwal asserted that the number of cases is rising as the AAP government has doubled testing in the city.

On Friday, Delhi recorded 2,914 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day spike in 69 days. This is the fourth successive day in September when over 2,000 new cases have been reported in a day. Also, over 36,000 tests were conducted on Friday.

Telengana Finance Minister Tests Positive

Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Saturday said he tested positive for COVID-19 and was 'fine'. Earlier a couple of Telangana ministers who tested positive for the deadly virus have undergone treatment and were cured.

India continued to add new coronavirus cases at a record pace even as the government implored people view the rising infections in context of the country’s 1.3 billion population.

India added over 86,000 cases in 24 hours, taking the total tally over 40 lakh in the world’s second-most populous country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Sept. 5. This includes nearly 70,000 deaths and over 31 lakh patients who have recovered.

Meanwhile, the Centre on Friday asked 15 districts of four states reporting higher number of Covid-19 deaths and infections to work on drawing up proper containment zones, effective monitoring of home isolation cases, adequate testing, ensuring seamless hospitalisation and reducing the waiting time in triaging.

At a review meeting held by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, the district authorities were asked to bring down the response time of ambulances while ensuring zero refusal by them and effective clinical management of hospitalised cases to cut down on the fatalities due to the disease, sources said.

Global Update:

Globally, cases crossed 26.3 million leaving over 8,70,000 dead as of Friday night.
