The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India neared the 63,000-mark on Sunday morning, with the death toll exceeding 2,000.

India added 3,277 new Covid-19 cases over 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry’s 8:00 a.m. update on April 10. The total number of cases in India stands at 62,939. This includes 19,358 people who've recovered and 2,109 deaths.

We are now a week away from the end of the lockdown’s second extension.

India's health ministry has told citizens that they will have to learn to live with the virus, urging people to follow prevention guidelines and bring about a behavioural change.

Global Update

Globally, coronavirus cases went past the 4 million mark, with deaths exceeding 279,000. Shulan, a Chinese city in the northeastern province of Jilin bordering North Korea, raised its coronavirus threat alert level to high risk. Australia’s two most populous states are edging toward easing social-distancing restrictions.

Revival Of Economy To Take Centre Stage At PM-CM Meeting Tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with chief ministers via video conferencing on Monday, with a focus on reviving economic activity stalled by the six-week-long coronavirus lockdown.

This will be his fifth such interaction with state leaders since the coronavirus outbreak.

The Prime Minister's Office said the video conference will begin at 3:00 pm on Monday.

According to sources in the government, the focus of the meeting will be on boosting economic activity and pushing efforts to convert 'red' zones into 'orange' or 'green' zones. (read more)

Dharavi Records 26 New Coronavirus Cases, Two Deaths

Mumbai’s largest slum, Dharavi, recorded 26 new coronavirus cases and two deaths today, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said. The area now has a total of 859 cases and 29 deaths.

Two New Coronavirus Cases In Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh has reported two new coronavirus cases, taking the total tally in the state to 55, officials said on Sunday.

Two people quarantined at Swarghat in Bilaspur district along the Himachal-Punjab border have tested positive, Bilaspur Deputy Commissioner Rajeswar Goel said. The two are taxi drivers and had recently ferried two families from Gujarat's Ahmedabad and Haryana's Gurgaon to their native places in Mandi and Kangra districts.

As they showed symptoms during screening at the border, the two were quarantined and their samples were taken, he added. PTI

Delhi Records Five More Deaths Due To Covid-19

Delhi has recorded 381 new cases of Covid-19 and five deaths due to the disease in the past 24 hours, the state government said on Sunday.

The coronavirus tally in the national capital now stands at 6,923.

Between midnight of May 8 and midnight of May 9, five fresh fatalities due to the virus were reported, taking the death toll to 73, the government said in its health bulletin. While there are 4,781 active cases of the virus in the city, 2069 patients have so far recovered from Covid-19. PTI

Restaurants, Hotels Seek Approval To Sell Their Liquor Stock

Sitting on a liquor stockpile of around Rs 3,000 crore, restaurants and hotels across the country are asking state governments to allow them to sell the stock lying with them due to the coronavirus lockdown.

"We are truly living in unprecedented times where on one hand we are sitting with expensive liquor inventory and on the other hand, we are cash starved," said Anurag Katriar, president of National Restaurant Association of India. PTI

Madhya Pradesh: Five Labourers Killed In Truck Accident

At least five migrant labourers were killed and 13 others injured when a truck in which they were travelling overturned in Madhya Pradesh's Narsinghpur district, a police official said on Sunday.

The accident took place near Patha village on Saturday night when nearly 20 migrant labourers were going in the truck to Jhansi and Etah in Uttar Pradesh from Hyderabad, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Tiwari said.

Five labourers were killed and 13 others were injured after the mangoes-laden vehicle overturned, he said. The injured persons were admitted to the district hospital for treatment, he added. PTI

58 New Coronavirus Cases In Odisha, Including 41 Migrants Who Returned From Surat

Ganjam district in Odisha reported its first Covid-19 death after a man succumbed to the virus on Sunday, taking the death toll in the state to three, an official of the health department said.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state has climbed to 352, with 58 more testing positive for the disease, the official said. At least 41 of them are those who returned from Surat in Gujarat recently, he said. PTI

As of 8:00 am on April 10, the total number of coronavirus cases in India stood at 62,939 while the death toll crossed the 2,000 mark, according to data from the union health ministry.

According to the official data, India has:

  • Active Cases: 41,472
  • Cured/Discharged/Migrated: 19,358
  • Deaths: 2,109

3,277 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in India over the last 24 hours, including 128 deaths. 1,511 people recovered from the disease since Saturday morning.
