India's active case load continued to decline, even as the country's death toll remained elevated.
As many as 16,156 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Oct. 28. That compares with 17,095 recoveries during the same period.
At 1.6 lakh, active cases are at their lowest since Feb. 27 and account for only 0.47% of the country's total tally.

India, however, continued to report a spike in daily fatalities due to the coronavirus. As many as 733 deaths were reported in the last 24-hour period, the highest since July 21, when over 2,000 deaths were reported due to revision of data.
Today's spike comes as Kerala added 529 previously undocumented deaths to its tally.
India's total Covid-19 death toll has now risen to 4.56 lakh, one of the world's worst, only behind the U.S. and Brazil.
