The number of monthly subscribers migrating out of India’s largest mobile operator rose to a record in March.
Vodafone Idea Ltd. lost over 90 lakh active subscribers in March—which was also the highest in the last 11 months that it has been bleeding users, according to data from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. Its subscriber base has shrunk by over 5 crore in this period.
The subscriber base loss in the last four months could be attributed to the minimum recharge plans that it introduced—forcing them to opt for higher-priced packs—while that in the previous seven months was due to intense competition in the sector.
Bharti Airtel Ltd.’s active subscriber base dropped by 1.5 lakh in March while that of the telecom industry dropped by 9 lakh.
