How Infosys Fared Under Its CEOs

A comparison of how Infosys fared under each of its five CEOs so far.

Infosys Ltd., which is battling a leadership crisis after the exit of its managing director and chief executive officer Vishal Sikka, has had five CEOs in all since inception.

Here’s how it has fared under each of its CEOs.

The market capitalisation of the software services provider rose from Rs 280 crore in 1998 to more than Rs 2 lakh crore today (data available only since 1998 though Infosys went public in February 1993).

It grew at the fastest pace when Murthy was at the helm as Infosys graduated from a startup to an information technology services giant. Its valuation rose more than four-fold to over Rs 1 lakh crore under Nandan Nilekani. The pace of growth remained steady under Kris Gopalakrishnan and SD Shibulal and moderated during Sikka’s term.

Infosys’ revenue increased at over 65 percent compounded annual growth rate under Murthy (data available only since 1995 though Murthy led the company from inception in 1981).

Revenue rose at over 40 percent CAGR during Nilekani’s term and the pace of growth remained in double digits under Gopalakrishnan and Shibulal. It fell to single digits under Sikka, largely due to challenges the entire industry faced.
