United Breweries Ltd.’s volumes in the December-ended quarter were lifted by the base effect and new launches such as Kingfisher Strong and Amstel, said its Managing Director Shekhar Ramamurthy.
“Same time last year, the base was lower...and that clearly benefited us,” Ramamurthy said in a conversation with BloombergQuint, noting the Supreme Court ban on sale of liquor along highways, goods and services tax and “significantly increased” taxation in Maharashtra and Bengal affected operations in the last two years.
Ramamurthy said he expects United Breweries to grow at 10 percent in the coming years—about 200 to 300 basis points ahead of his growth forecast for the industry.
