The Tata Group is testing its super app, called Tata NEU, that will allow consumers to buy grocery and air tickets to taking a loan on a single platform.
It's beta testing a browser version, currently available only to group employees. BloombergQuint has previewed this version. The app version of its one-stop shop for its consumer-focused businesses is expected to be launched soon.
The Tata Group is trying to catch up as Reliance Industries Ltd., Amazon.com Inc.'s India unit and One97 Communications Ltd.'s Paytm have already brought multiple services under a single platform. The companies are banking on India's accelerated digital shift during the pandemic while looking to emulate China's WeChat that started as a messaging app and now offers shopping and food delivery to payments.
As per the version BQ previewed, Tata NEU's website homepage has 11 verticals including grocery, fashion, electronics, flights, and entertainment.
The site has products and services from Croma, Indian Hotels Co., AirAsia India, BigBasket and Tata CliQ. The focus as of now is on electronics and fashion.
Products of Tata Motors Ltd. and Tata Consumer Products Ltd. are yet to make it to the site.
