(Bloomberg) -- Mark Zarrilli’s final commute home from his job as a mortgage salesman was a trek across the Hudson River, just like every other day. Unlike every other day -- the bathing suit and paddleboard.
Zarrilli, an executive director who led Mizuho Financial’s regional desk for mortgage and asset-backed securities, said he took the unusual route home last month after deciding to leave the Japanese bank.
“The Hudson River was angry,” said Zarrilli, adding that the rough waves meant he had to kneel for most of trip to New Jersey from Manhattan.
While the river seemed upset, Zarrilli said he wasn’t in a foul mood. “I’m going to be 54 in October, did not want to waste more time commuting, so I retired that part of my career,” he said in a text message after posting a picture of the trip to his LinkedIn account.
Zarrilli, who joined Mizuho in 2010 after stints at Deutsche Bank AG and Bank of America Corp., said he’ll look for a new job next year. For now, he owns a bar in Brick, New Jersey, called the Mantoloking Road Alehouse, where he plans to spend more time.
