IndiGo Places $20 Billion Order For Aircraft Engines To Power Its Airbus A320neo Planes

Budget airline IndiGo has placed a $20-billion order for LEAP-1A aircraft engines with U.S.-based CFM International that will power its future fleet of 280 narrow-body planes, said parent InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. on Monday.

Calling it the "largest ever single engine order in history", IndiGo said that "delivery of the first LEAP-1A-powered A320neo is scheduled in 2020. IndiGo has been a customer of CFM International since 2016 and currently operates a fleet of 17 A320neo aircraft powered by CFM 56-5B engines.

"We're pleased to partner with CFM for our next batch of Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft," said Riyaz Peermohamed, chief aircraft acquisition and financing officer of IndiGo.

IndiGo has a fleet of over 230 aircraft out of 215 belong to Airbus A320/321 family.

On Monday, IndiGo shares fell 0.31 percent to Rs 1,640.35 apiece on the BSE while the benchmark Sensex shed 1.25 percent to end the day at 38,960.79 points.
